Chipping and Shredding Capacity

The PRO 420 is designed to chip branches up to 4 inches in diameter and shred material up to 3/4 inch. Separate hopper openings provide access for different types of material.

The 9.4-inch x 8.6-inch chipper hopper accepts branches up to 4 inches in diameter, while the larger 19.6-inch x 13.3-inch shredder hopper allows leaves, prunings, and other yard waste to be loaded by the armful.

12 Free-Swinging Shredder Hammers

The PRO 420 uses 12 free-swinging shredder hammers to process leaves, prunings, and other smaller yard and garden materials. The free-swinging design allows the hammers to move during operation as they process material.

DR® OHV Engine

The PRO 420 is equipped with a 9.2 HP, 301cc DR® OHV engine. The engine is designed to provide power for both chipping hardwood branches and shredding yard and garden waste.

The model is available with manual-start or electric-start configurations. The provided product specifications list different weights depending on the starting system.

Oversized Hopper Openings

A foot plate positioned below the recoil starter provides additional control when tilting the machine or positioning it for operation.

Kickstand for Stable Operation

The integrated kickstand supports the chipper shredder at the intended working angle and provides a stable position during operation. It also helps transition the machine between travel and working positions.

PRO-SPEC™ Chipper Knife

The PRO 420 features a hardened steel PRO-SPEC™ chipper knife made from high-carbon/high-chromium forged alloy tool steel. The manufacturer states that these knives are designed to hold an edge longer than those used on lower-cost chippers.

As with other cutting tools, maintaining a sharp knife is important for maintaining proper performance. The manufacturer recommends keeping a replacement knife available to help minimize downtime when maintenance is required.
